Nandeshwar Ghat, the Bollywood’s favourite shooting location in Varanasi is located near Raj Ghat. Away from all the city madness and chaotic ghats, Nandeshwar ghat holds the essence of Varanasi which is why more than 50 films and short films have been shot here.
Remember the scene where Kundan flaunts the power of his tight Nada in Raanjhanaa movie? Obviously, you do. This is where it was shot and not to forget the scenes from the title song as well!

Are you a Mukti Bhawan fanatic? The real Kashi Labh Mukti Bhawan is located in the crowded area of Misir Pokhra near the church crossing. The one you see in the movie is a Haveli located at Nandeshwar ghat.

If talking about the movies then how can we forget the iconic Masaan? Yes, you guessed it right. All the ghat scenes in the movie were shot at Nandeshwar Ghat and Raj Ghat. The cremation ground which you see in the movie was created just right here!

The ghat is named after a small temple of Nandeshwar Shiva which is located here. A part of the Ghat was made pucca in 1940 by Dwarkanath Chakraborty, a businessman from Bawanipur, Bengal. He also built a grand haveli on the ghat which has also served several films, documentaries, and short movies.

This Ghat also has a small Akhada which goes by the name “Nandeshwar Vyayam Shala”. Presently around 20 students practice here in the morning and late evenings. The Akhada is completely managed by the students as no help or support is being provided by the Govt.

Even after being in so many movies and hosting so many actors, Nandeshwar Ghat is not very popular among the locals and tourists. The ghat remains peaceful all around the year except for the Nag Panchami when wrestling matches are hosted in its Akhada. Nandeshwar Ghat is also called Nandu Ghat and it appears as the same in Google Maps.
From Akhada to temples and from haveli to the Ganges, Nandeshwar Ghat has all the elements of Varanasi. Adding the low footfall makes it the perfect place to shoot in Varanasi.
