Varanasi is often called the cradle of the Banaras Gharana, one of India's great schools of classical music. The Private Musical Heritage Boat Ride puts that heritage on the water: an accomplished local musician performs live, just for your group, as you sail the full stretch of the ghats. Sail in the evening and the ride runs longer, around 2-3 hours, so you can also watch the Ganga Aarti from the water.
It's the same Ganga you'd see on any boat ride, but heard differently. As the boat drifts past 84 ghats lit by temple lamps and evening life along the river, the music evolves with the view, a sitar or flute weaving through a scene that's been unchanged for centuries.
Choose between a Premium Double-Decker Bajda for more space to move around, or a Traditional Motorboat for a more intimate setting with the musician close beside you. Either way, boarding is from Assi Ghat, and a traditional welcome with flower garland and tilak starts the evening before you even set sail.

Can I choose the instrument?
Yes. You can choose between the Sitar (iconic and vibrant), the Bansuri/Flute (calm and meditative), the Sarangi (soulful and vocal-like), or the Tabla. Let us know your preference in the booking form.
Is the music live or recorded?
It's 100% live. We work with professional artists from the Banaras Gharana to make sure you experience authentic Indian classical music, not a recording.
Does the Traditional Motorboat have space for the artist?
Yes, our regular motorboats provide a dedicated, comfortable space for the musician, close enough for an intimate performance. The Premium Double-Decker Bajda offers more room to move around if you'd prefer that instead.
Can we interact with the musician?
Certainly. Our artists are happy to briefly explain the raga they're playing or the history of their instrument if you're curious.
What if it's noisy on the river?
Our boatmen know how to find quieter pockets on the water where the acoustics work best for a live performance.
Is photography or video allowed?
Yes, you're welcome to capture photos and video of the musician and the general riverfront throughout the ride.
